Garages In Listing Photos

Should the garage be included in your listings photos?

According to this article by NAR, almost a quarter of buyers currently think of a garage as a priority when considering a home. There are a number of considerations, however, when deciding whether or not to include the garage in your listing photos.

It’s A Selling Feature

Garages are obviously a big selling feature for the homes that have them. As noted above, many buyers are now even considering them one of their top ten priorities when considering a home. It is worth considering their inclusion in listing materials in order to attract buyers.

If the garage is particularly nice or spacious, then it would likely be advantageous to include it in the listing photos taken of them home. However, even if it doesn’t look like a garage from a home design magazine, making sure that it is clean, neat, and well-lit can be enough to make it appear spacious and usable enough to attract buyers.

Reasons To Skip

One obvious reason to skip the garage is if it’s particularly dingy or small. As buyers are actively looking for garages, it would be better in this case to note its presence in the listing description and let interested buyers draw their own conclusions about it in person.

Another common reason to skip the garage is that many sellers use it for storage. Though important to buyers, the garage is not as important to photograph as the rest of the home. Many buyers, thus, opt to store extra home items, moving supplies, trash cans, and similar items in the garage to provide a neat and clutter-free appearance throughout the rest of the home.

Ultimately, it is up to the agent and homeowner as to whether they feel the garage should be photographed. Our photographers are, however, always happy to provide expert advice on what about your listing could be used to drive the most buyer traffic, so feel free to ask them too.
